'Stealth' speed camera vans could be rolled out across the UK - driver warning
Drivers are being warned of new unmarked speed camera vans which could be introduced to fine drivers around the UK as trials continue.


The mobile speed vans, which have been dubbed “stealth vans”, are being trialled around Northamptonshire, with drivers spotting them in recent weeks. If local authorities find the new deterrent to be successful, it could slowly be rolled out around the country in the near future.The “stealth vans” are repurposed old mobile speed vans which have been wrapped in a grey coating.

This is a far cry from the bold fluorescent yellow and orange colours seen on roads at present. Mobile speed cameras are operated by local police forces and are usually found on roads where accidents and speeding are more likely to be found.

According to the RAC, this will be if there have been a large number of accidents over the last three years

Many people in local forums and Facebook groups will often warn other drivers of the locations of the speed cameras.Some councils and police forces also update their websites to alert drivers to the locations of the mobile speed vans, as well as any fixed speed cameras. Despite this, there is no condition meaning police forces or councils have to make the locations known to the public.
